Early Inspiration and Pathway

I first discovered my passion for voice work while studying Acting and Performance and singing in choirs throughout my school years. Although I initially planned on attending a conservatory to focus on singing, I realised that my true calling lay in helping others. When I learned that Speech and Language Therapists could specialise in voice disorders, I knew I’d found the perfect blend of clinical science and creative expression—and I’ve never looked back.

Academic and Professional Credentials

I obtained a BSc in Speech and Language Pathology from the University of Strathclyde (2013). I completed my PhD at Queen Margaret University (2025), researching the use of smartphones to record and analyse voice quality. This focus on practical, tech-driven solutions ensures that my work remains at the forefront of modern voice therapy techniques.

Clinical and Research Experience

I have worked in the NHS as a speech and language therapist since 2014 and currently work in NHS Ayrshire and Arran.
My primary research interests include voice disorders, acoustic analysis, and upper airway management—especially how to prevent and monitor voice issues before they become problematic or in the context of chronic difficulties.

I have co-authored several peer-reviewed publications and presented at various international conferences on voice and voice science.

I stay connected to emerging research through regular journal reading and by maintaining a research blog that distils complex findings into practical insights for clients and professionals alike.

Practice Setting and Approach

I run a fully online practice via Zoom, making therapy accessible no matter where you live in the UK. My sessions centre on evidence-based methods, tailored exercises, and clear rationales for every technique we use. You can expect each appointment to focus on thorough assessment, collaborative goal-setting, and practical strategies you can implement straight away.

Range of Clients and Conditions

I work primarily with adults experiencing a variety of voice and upper airway concerns, from muscle tension dysphonia and vocal nodules to post-surgical voice rehabilitation. Clients include professional voice users, those dealing with chronic hoarseness, and individuals simply wanting to optimise or protect their vocal health.

Therapeutic Philosophy

My style is direct, evidence-based, and solution-focused. I believe in empowering you with knowledge: understanding why a technique works is just as important as knowing how to practise it. Though I integrate holistic principles—like the mind-body connection and tension release—my approach is firmly grounded in clinical research. While I have training in hands-on methods such as manual therapy, my current online setup means we’ll focus on practical exercises, lifestyle modifications, and guided self-techniques to help you achieve sustainable vocal health.

Teaching and Mentorship

I’ve lectured on dysphagia at the postgraduate level and frequently present CPD sessions on voice and upper airway issues to local SLT teams. I also provide mentorship and supervision to fellow professionals, sharing best practices in rehabilitating individuals with complex voice needs.

Professional Affiliations and Ongoing Development

I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and a full member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT). Ongoing professional development is integral to my work—whether by attending specialised conferences, engaging in peer networks, or exploring new research to ensure I deliver the most up-to-date, effective therapy.

Unique Background and Personal Interests

My background in acting, musical theatre, and instrumental performance (piano, saxophone) gives me a special appreciation for the artistic side of voice use. This creative perspective helps me relate to clients who rely heavily on their voices, whether on stage, in the classroom, or in everyday life.
